Critical Gaps & Limitations

What the framework does not yet solve, and what we refuse to hide. Scientific character means naming the hard points and working them in public.

This page systematically records critical gaps, limitations, and likely points of criticism (status: July 2026). The framework will always have local validity. It does not claim global applicability. The standard is maximum critical honesty and active work on the largest weaknesses.

Dual Mission

Two missions, held at once

01 · Practical

Human, AI-shift. Support conscious design of identity: Sameness-as-Trajectory plus Causal Entropy (Vision Gradient). Operating system for Ownership and Architect-level action.

02 · Fundamental

Substrate-free. Model artificial identities and intelligence beyond biological hardware. Extension of mission 1, not a replacement. AI makes this nearly obligatory.

Central bridge and hardest work: isomorphism — clear methodological bridges between physical-mathematical concepts and identity phenomena, beyond loose metaphor. Without it the duality is vulnerable. With it the framework can be useful for humans and ontologically serious for new substrates.

That duality reframes many gaps below: reductionism and philosophical under-determination become more nuanced; “help everyone” stays mission 1 but sits inside a larger context; isomorphism becomes the main quality criterion.

Baseline

Acknowledged fundamental limitations

  • Local vs global validity. Local model for specific cognitive styles (systems thinkers, physics/math-comfortable, high-agency). No universal claim.
  • Inevitable gaps. Complexity implies gaps. The claim is honesty and active work, not perfection.
  • Evolving nature. Core concepts sharpened rapidly (Time foundation, Rotation, formal integration). Temporary drift between Notion, skill, and site is expected.
01 · Conceptual

Conceptual & ontological

Open · Active Review

Category error via physics metaphors

Transfer of terms such as Mass, Curvature, Gravitation, Rotation, Worldline without clear isomorphism or methodological bridge to actual physics. Risk of physics envy or rhetorical overclaim.

Impact: Loss of credibility with physicists, philosophers of science, and analytic philosophers.

Mitigation: Clarify analogy vs isomorphism in Core Concepts and Positioning. Mark formulas as inspirational formalization until rigorous derivations exist. Dual Mission makes rigorous isomorphism the central long-term task.

Open · High Priority

Reductionism (embodiment, affect, sociality, narrativity)

Identity is strongly reduced to a geometric trajectory (State Differential + Vision Gradient). Bodily, unconscious, socially constituted, and narrative/emotional dimensions remain under-illuminated.

Impact: Can feel cold or alienating in trauma or crisis. Weak connection to established identity psychology.

Mitigation: Build bridges to Narrative Identity (McAdams), Possible Selves, Self-Determination Theory, Embodied Cognition. Expand the interactive layer (Gravitation / Relativity). Handle reductionism carefully across human and substrate-free domains.

Open · Medium Priority

Philosophical under-determination of personal identity

The tension between Sameness-as-Trajectory and Causal Entropy is productive, but not yet robust against classical objections (fission/fusion, gradual replacement, Parfit-style arguments).

Impact: Weak defense in philosophical debate; risk in radical AI scenarios (mind upload).

Mitigation: Dedicated section on personal identity philosophy and literature. Dual Mission adds artificial / substrate-free identity persistence.

02 · Mathematical

Mathematical & formal

Open · Active Work

Imprecise formalization

The central formula I = arg max_γ [ ∫ V(γ(t)) · dγ + consistency term ] is inspiring, but the consistency term, the metric of configuration space, and the operationalization of ∇𝒞 remain vague.

Impact: Can be criticized as mathematics as decoration rather than a genuine tool.

Mitigation: Label formulas as inspirational / to-be-rigorously-derived. Develop concrete models and simple simulations. Dual Mission increases the need for precision.

03 · Practical

Practical & operationalization

Open · High Priority

Lack of concrete engineering practice & measurability

Questions as Probes and habits as tangential force are central, but not yet translated into protocols, diagnostics, or tools. No clear indicators for good geometry (wobble, mass density, etc.).

Impact: Strong theory, hard to apply and falsify for practitioners.

Mitigation: Develop 2–3 probe protocols plus a simple self-diagnostic and test internally.

Acknowledged · Future Work

Lack of empirical basis

No pilot studies, user tests, or A/B experiments yet.

Impact: Heavy claims of effectiveness or generality are hard to substantiate.

Mitigation: Pilots planned long-term (after book or Foundation stage). Current focus: internal coherence and logical consistency.

04 · Audience

Accessibility & audience

Accepted · Made Transparent

Strong selection by cognitive style

High demand on abstract, systemic, physics/math-affine thinking. Not barrier-free for everyone seeking orientation in the AI shift.

Impact: Partially contradicts any claim of helping everyone.

Mitigation: Clear target-group definition in Positioning. Optional lower-threshold entry (simplified visualizations, narrative versions).

05 · Process

Structural & process

Open · High Priority

Missing substantial positioning & differentiation

Positioning exists in the hub but remains weak in content.

Impact: Framework appears less differentiated and more vulnerable to criticism.

Mitigation: Concrete differentiation from 4–5 relevant frameworks (Narrative Identity, modern Stoicism, Self-Determination Theory, Agent Foundations in AI, etc.), reflecting Dual Mission.

Managed · Living Framework

Rapid evolution & temporary inconsistencies

Core structure updates (Rotation, Time layer) within days. Skill definition vs current pages can diverge slightly.

Impact: Can be perceived as unstable or retrofitted.

Mitigation: This page itself is transparency. Regular sync between Notion, GitHub, and the site via feature branches.
