Identity Engineering
The Framework

Identity Engineering

A science-inspired framework for consciously designing identity in the AI era. Three scales only: Single, Interactive, Collective. Two lenses: physics geometry and living form.

This framework serves systems-thinking individuals and teams with enough decision latitude to make consequential identity choices. It is not a universal model for every life context. Analogy, not isomorphism.

Concepts of a Single Identity

Internal geometry and dynamics of one identity: form, substance, warp, and stability.

Foundational

Space

Configuration space of the identity: the relational arena of degrees of freedom, before Time draws the Stem.

Scroll: dots appear; relative distances become visible.

Open concept
Foundational

Time: Identity Stem

The Identity Stem only exists through State Differential (past to present) and Vision Gradient (present to future). Time is the foundation that makes the stem possible.

Scroll: fibers rise past → present → future.

Open concept
Geometry

Mass

Substance and depth built around the stem. Not volume: density and weight. The stake we own.

Scroll to densify. Rest potential becomes agency under coherent velocity.

Open concept
Geometry

Curvature

How stem, mass, and coherent vision warp the reachable region of configuration space: what looks near, far, inevitable, or impossible.

Scroll to deepen the well. Shape of distortion, not yet the pull of others.

Open concept
Dynamics

Rotation

Gyroscopic stability of the stem. Habits act as tangential force: structure and substance without destabilizing the axis.

Scroll: slow spin wobbles; faster spin locks the axis.

Concepts of an Interactive Identity

Once a single geometry is strong enough, forces appear between identities.

Force

Gravitation

Attraction from the curvature of a high-mass vision. The first force between two or more identities.

Scroll to increase pull. Curvature is the bend; Gravitation is what is pulled in.

Open concept
Relation

Relativity

Identity exists only in relation to another observing identity. This is the bridge from single to interactive.

Scroll: measurement state. Continuity is observed through change.

Open concept
Dynamics

Frequency

Resonance behavior of identity tension fields. Alignment amplifies relational stability; mismatch produces drift and energetic loss.

Scroll to sweep frequency bands and reveal resonance lock-in.

Concepts of a Collective Identity

When identities stay coupled long enough, a higher-order identity emerges with its own persistence and damping.

Collective

Emergence

When many identities interact long enough, a new coherent whole begins to form with its own persistence, memory, and trajectory.

Scroll to see many identities cohere into one collective trajectory.

Open concept
Protection

Damping

Collective self-protection that calms destructive oscillations, reduces volatility, and preserves coherence across the whole system.

Scroll to see oscillations damped into stable collective order.

Where the map ends

Human-scale identity is the foundation. Frontier domains remain open on purpose. Use lives on the OS, not as a fourth scale.

Identity-Native Messaging Layer (communication and information exchange between Identities)

Signals exist in the Interactive biology lens as elementary exchange events. However, the full information exchange — messaging, broadcasting, task delegation, and multi-scope coordination between Identities (including hybrid human+agent and collective scopes) — remains undefined. Existing agent protocols (A2A / Agent Cards, MCP, OpenClaw-style multi-agent, Hermes, etc.) solve agent-to-agent and agent-to-tool communication. They do not provide an Identity-to-Identity layer under IE geometry (Mass, Curvature, Gravitation, Frequency, Ownership, Causal Entropic Forces / future freedom). Scopes (personal / project / team / department / org) are themselves Identities or Identity-configurations in the framework, yet there is no native way for them to exchange content while respecting Recognition, Coupling, Metabolism, and Ownership. This gap sits at the transition from Interactive → Living (operationalizing Metabolism and Multicellularity) and is required for the OS to turn geometry into a usable multi-identity system. Related existing gaps: #30 (Relational and collective identity), #48 (Shared / multi-identity Space).

Dependency on a single contested scientific foundation (Wissner-Gross)

The causal entropic forces proposal (Wissner-Gross & Freer, PRL 2013) is cited as the scientific grounding for IE's core telos of maximizing future causal options. This is a single theoretical paper whose scientific reception is mixed. Grounding an identity framework on one contested physics paper is a credibility risk — the analogy is productive but the isomorphism remains unestablished.

    Category error via physics metaphors

Transfer of terms such as Mass, Curvature, Gravitation, Rotation, Worldline without clear isomorphism or methodological bridge to actual physics. Risk of physics envy or rhetorical overclaim.
