Gene
The heritable founding configuration of an Identity: the inner image of self that can be passed to a new Identity so that continuity of lineage and independence of the new form can both hold.
Status: Working concept under the biology lens. Primary science reading: genetics as the discipline of heritable information across generations of living forms. Analogy, not isomorphism. Gene is not the Identity Stem.
What is passed, not what is lived.
In biology, genetics studies how living forms transmit heritable information to the next generation. A daughter cell receives DNA; from the moment of separation it is a new living unit with its own membrane, metabolism, and further trajectory.
In Identity Engineering, Gene names the same structural role under the biology lens: the heritable founding configuration that one Identity can pass when a new Identity begins.
That includes human children, idea-identities, organizational spin-offs, and other offspring forms. Each starts with a founding core from a parent Identity, then develops its own Stem, vision, and trajectory.
- Heritable mass: the concentrated, passable core of how a form is founded, not the full surface of a life as it is currently lived.
- Inner image of self that can be given away: a portable imprint of authorship origin, values-seed, and starting constraint, sufficient for a new Identity to begin recognizably related and still become other.
- Bridge between Identities: Gene is the biology-lens name for transmission across Identity boundaries (parent → child, author → idea, form → spin-off).
- Start of a new Stem, not the parent Stem: the new Identity receives Gene as founding input, then builds its own State Differential and Vision Gradient over time.
- Not the Identity Stem. The Stem is the ongoing temporal object of one Identity: State Differential (past → present) and Vision Gradient (present → future) held in tension. Gene does not replace that. See Time / Identity Stem.
- Not the full trajectory of a life. Registry history, Geometry Receipts, and lived Mass belong to the Stem of the living form. Gene is only the passable founding slice, not the whole worldline.
- Not control of the offspring. Passing Gene does not keep Ownership over the new Identity. The child, idea, or spin-off becomes its own form with its own membrane and jurisdiction. Lineage is factual; ordinary policy power is grant-scoped and can be revoked by the Child. A narrow residual emergency lever may remain for the creator line; it is not permanent admin over the Child Stem.
- Not the agentic loop inside the form. Model weights, prompts, or tool harnesses may be part of what a runtime Identity transmits. They are machinery, not Gene as such. Identity is not the loop.
- Not a claim that identity is DNA. Genetics supplies the science reading. The framework mapping is structural and operational, not a reduction of persons or ideas to molecular sequences.
Founding core, not the living trunk.
An Identity may carry an innermost core that persists across its own life: deep authorship orientation, non-negotiable constraints, the phase that still feels like "me" after large surface change. That core is part of how the Stem stays recognizable.
Gene is what can be extracted from that depth as a founding gift to another Identity. It is related to the innermost core, but it is defined by transmissibility across a boundary, not by continuity inside one life.

Lineage plus default jurisdiction, not Stem capture.
In IE OS, creating an Identity records factual lineage and issues a default jurisdiction package to the creator: transferable grants for policy, visibility, and Surface admin on the new form.
That package is the operational reading of Gene under relative Ownership. Ordinary Parent grants can be revoked by the Child. A narrow residual emergency lever (freeze, quarantine, visibility re-evaluation) may remain for the creator line; it is audited and is not full admin over the Child Stem.

What we work on
- Name the founding gift: when you start a child Identity, an idea-identity, or a spin-off, what exactly is being passed, and what must stay yours?
- Protect independence: Gene starts relatedness. It must not smuggle permanent control. Default grants are transferable; the Child can revoke ordinary Parent power.
- Keep residual narrow: any last emergency lever for the creator line is audited and scoped (not silent Stem writes).
- Keep Stem distinct: do not treat your full history as heritable payload. Pass a core, not a captivity.
- Honor lineage without identity collapse: the new form may carry your Gene and still owe you no obligation to remain a copy.
Primary discipline: genetics (heritable information across generations of living systems). Cell biology supplies the unit that receives Gene and then lives as its own form. Further biology-lens concepts (Cell, Metabolism, Signal, and others) will be founded separately. This page is the first explicit step of that lens, not the full map.
