Coupling
A sustained structural or functional link between living units: more than a single signal, less than a fused identity.

Relation that holds in time.
In biology, cells can form more than transient contacts.Coupling names durable links: junctions, adhesion complexes, coordinated channels, stable neighborhoods in a tissue. The units remain distinct; the link persists and carries repeated exchange.
In Identity Engineering, Coupling is the biology-lens name for that sustained interactive structure. AfterSignal(event) andRecognition(admission logic), Coupling is what forms when exchange continues under maintained boundaries: a bond, a channel, a practiced relation — not yet a multicellular Collective Identity.
Under the physics lens, interactive forces (Gravitation, Frequency, Relativity) describe pull and measurement between identities. Coupling is the living-form reading of a relation that stays online without erasing either Cell.
- Sustained link: structure or practice that outlasts a single signal event.
- Preserved distinctness: two (or more) Cells remain separate forms with their own Boundaries and Stems.
- Channel for repeated exchange: signals can flow under standing recognition, not only one-off encounters.
- Bridge to Collective: when many couplings stabilize into a higher-order living system, Multicellularity becomes the next scale.
- Not a single Signal.An event can start a path to coupling; it is not yet the sustained link.
- Not Recognition alone.Admission policy enables coupling; it does not constitute the bond.
- Not fusion or absorption.If one Identity dissolves into the other, Boundary and Cell are lost. That is not coupling.

- Not Ownership of the partner.A coupled Cell keeps its own jurisdiction. Coupling is relation under distinctness.

What we work on
- Build links that leave both forms intact: relation without capture.
- Prefer repeated recognized exchange over forced merger: coupling is earned stability.
- Name the channel: what actually holds the relation (practice, contract, shared context, technical interface)?
- Watch for scale jump: when couplings densify into a whole with its own persistence, you are entering Collective, not still pairwise Interactive.
