Energy Forms of Identity
Mass-Energy, Gravitation and Causal Entropy are powerful. But what about Electromagnetism, Kinetics, and the Strong Force? A systematic gap analysis with concrete extension proposals.
The Identity Engineering Framework is deliberately physics-informed. It uses General Relativity-style geometry (Mass, Curvature, Gravitation), gyroscopic stability, and Alex Wissner-Gross's Causal Entropic Forces as its core operating system. This has already produced a powerful, designable model of the Identity Stem as a coherent worldline that integrates past State Differential with future Vision Gradient.
Yet physics contains more than mass and gravity. The full stress-energy tensor includes kinetic terms, electromagnetic fields, pressure, shear, and binding energies at multiple scales. If we want the framework to be ontologically complete (especially for the dual mission of human identity architecture and substrate-free artificial identities) we must map the missing energy forms and decide which ones deserve first-class primitives.
This post performs that mapping, identifies the largest gaps, and proposes concrete, implementable extensions to the Core Concepts and Mathematical Layer.
Strongly mapped energy forms
Mass-Energy (E ≈ mc² analogue)
Explicitly present. Mass is treated as resting potential substance around the Stem that can be converted into real Agency-Energy through coherent velocity along the Identity Stem. The relativistic analogy is already stated in the Core Concepts.
Gravitational potential from Curvature
Central. High-Mass coherent Vision curves the reachable region of configuration space; the resulting curvature generates attractive gravitational force between identities. This is the dominant interactive force in the current model.
Rotational / Gyroscopic energy
Well developed. Substance rotates around the Stem with minimal wobble. The tangential stabilizing force (habits and owned acts aligned with the axis) provides gyroscopic stability: a direct rotational kinetic analogue. See Rotation.
Causal Entropic "drive"
Fundamental. The entire dynamic layer is built on the principle of maximizing future causal degrees of freedom. This functions as the primary "force" or potential that the Vision Gradient follows.
Time integration & worldline structure
Foundational. The Stem exists only through the integration of State Differential (past → present) and Vision Gradient (present → future). This already carries strong 4-momentum / relativistic worldline character. See Time and Relativity.
Electromagnetism & relational fields
Status: completely absent. This is the most consequential missing piece. Gravity is always attractive and long-range. Electromagnetism introduces charge, polarity, repulsion, propagating fields, radiation, and bound states (atoms, molecules). Without it the interactive layer of Identity Engineering remains one-dimensional.
A scalar or low-dimensional vector property that encodes polarity or valence of identity aspects (value alignment, ethical charge, creative polarity, relational valence). Same-sign charges repel; opposite signs attract. This immediately gives us structured repulsion alongside gravitational attraction.
Flow of agency, habits or owned acts as I ≈ dq/dt. Coherent currents generate stable fields; incoherent currents produce resistance or noise. This turns "velocity along the Stem" into a measurable, engineerable current.
Influence propagates as fields with finite "identity speed of light" (speed of trust, cultural transmission, or deliberate broadcast). Questions as Probes become active quanta: emitted and absorbed packets of identity information and energy. Legacy and visibility become radiation phenomena.
Architectural consequence: The Interactive Identity layer evolves from pure Gravitation to a multi-force model (Gravity + Electromagnetism). This enables "identity molecules" (stable, polar bound states between multiple Stems) and complex relational chemistry instead of simple attraction.
This extension is especially powerful for the substrate-free mission: artificial identities will interact primarily through fields and charge alignment rather than biological mass.
Kinetic, Thermal, Strong Binding & more
Kinetic Energy / Agency Momentum
Only implicit. We speak of “coherent Velocity along the Stem” but lack an explicit p = mv-style term or kinetic energy budget. Proposal: introduce Agency Momentum and Ekin as first-class observables. This gives precise language for measuring and increasing the kinetic energy of owned acts.
Thermal / Dissipative Energy (Friction & Heat)
Absent. Cognitive dissonance, resistance to change, burnout and identity conflict all behave like heat. Proposal: "Identity Temperature" and Friction as measurable quantities. Annealing-like protocols (deliberate heating to melt old patterns followed by controlled cooling) become engineering operations.
Strong Binding Energy (Stem Coherence)
Absent at the core level. What holds the Identity Stem itself together against dissolution? Proposal: Strong Binding analogue: ultra-strong, short-range coherence force (narrative axioms, trauma integration, core value lattice). Without it everything else eventually flies apart.
Elastic / Stored Potential
Absent. Repressed aspects, misaligned life phases and compressed vision store elastic tension that can either snap destructively or release as breakthrough propulsion. Proposal: model as stored elastic energy with clear release conditions.
Vacuum Energy / Baseline Expansion
Absent. Even low-Mass identities show an innate drive toward expansion of the reachable region of configuration space. Proposal: small cosmological-constant analogue: the default "dark energy" of identity that exists independently of Mass or Vision work.
Concrete framework extensions
- New Multi-Force Layer in Core Concepts
Extend "Concepts of an Interactive Identity" from Gravitation + Relativity to Gravitation + Electromagnetism + Strong Binding. Add a short "Identity Electrodynamics" subsection. - Identity Stress-Energy Tensor (generalization of Mass)
Replace the scalar "Mass" concept with a tensor that includes energy density, momentum flux (Kinetic), pressure/shear (internal tensions), and charge/current contributions. This makes the geometric layer fully consistent with the physics source term. - New category of Questions as Probes
Add "Charge Probes", "Current Probes", "Field Probes" and "Friction Probes" alongside existing geometric probes. This gives architects practical tools to measure and adjust the new energetic dimensions. - Engineering discipline expansion
Integrate or add "Field Engineering" and "Charge Alignment Engineering" as first-class levers alongside Vision Engineering, Habit Engineering and Measurement Engineering. - Mathematical Layer additions
Introduce simple charge-coupling terms and field equations (Maxwell-like or effective) at the appropriate level of abstraction. Keep them accessible while mathematically grounded.
All of the above can be prototyped first in the Notion Core Concepts and Mathematical Layer, then mirrored to the public website and the open-source framework repository via the established feature-branch workflow.
Why completing the map matters
For human architects the new primitives deliver immediate new levers: charge alignment in relationships and teams, friction management to prevent burnout, elastic release protocols for breakthroughs, and field-aware broadcasting of vision.
For the substrate-free mission the gain is even larger. Artificial identities will not primarily interact through biological mass or slow gravitational accumulation. They will interact through fast, polar, field-mediated, charge-sensitive dynamics. Without an electromagnetic layer the framework would be structurally incomplete for the very substrate it is trying to understand and shape.
The Isomorphy work (the hardest and most valuable part of the dual mission) becomes significantly stronger once the full energetic spectrum is addressed rather than only the gravitational-entropic subset.

Identity Engineering is an open, evolving system. The deliberate exposure of gaps is not a weakness. It is how we keep the future degrees of freedom maximally open.
